appropriate for guitarists of all levels with an interest in Latin American music
duration : approximately 3 hours


program:

- introduction to contemporary Brazilian music, including the principal styles of samba and bossa nova, as well as lesser known styles such as choro, baiao, and frevo;

 

- study of the right-hand rhythm, independence of the thumb from the fingers, explanation of the “sincope” concept, fundamental rhythmic models of samba for guitar;

 

- demonstration of typical harmonic sequences of bossa nova adapted from jazz; introduction to the concept of “re-harmonizing”;

 

- stylistic analysis of the most important Brazilian guitarists: Joao Gilberto, Baden Powell, Irio De Paula, Joao Bosco, Caetano Veloso, Toquinho, Gilberto Gil;

 

- performance, accompanied by analysis of the harmony and rhythm of the following pieces:

- performance of original pieces composed in the Brazilian style;

 

- history of bossa nova, listening to some significant pieces, social content of Brazilian music and, in particular, of bossa nova.
